Top Five Haunted Houses in Chicagoland

The month of October brings along with it cooler temperatures, leaves changing colors, and the thrills and chills of Halloween. And just because Halloween falls at the end of the month doesn’t mean you can’t have some spooky adventures in the weeks beforehand. Below you’ll find five of our most highly anticipated haunted houses in the Chicagoland area, which the hardcore horror fans at Aronson Advertising will be checking out when we’re not hard at work!

Since we’d like everyone to have fun this Halloween season, we do recommend parents research these haunted houses for age appropriateness.

Basement of the Dead

Location: 42 W New York Street, Aurora, IL

According to the Basement of the Dead legend, this haunt is the remnants of a laundry company from the 1960s. The basement is now haunted by those stuck inside the boiler room during an explosion. Located in the western suburb of Aurora, IL, Basement of the Dead—founded in 2000—has been revamped from last year and promises that guests won’t recognize it at all. Also included with the ticket price is the Shattered haunted house, which features a creepy, vengeful clown.

Statesville Haunted Prison & City of the Dead

Location: 17250 S Weber Road, Crest Hill, IL

If you’re from the northern Chicagoland suburbs, you’ll have to make the (absolutely worth it) trek to Statesville Haunted Prison in the south suburb of Crest Hill. As evidenced by its name, Statesville is riddled with ghoulish prisoners who take great pleasure in scaring guests. Guests can also explore an additional haunted house, the City of the Dead. for some extra scares. And because this popular haunted house is located on Siegel’s Cottonwood Pumpkin Farm, you can pick out your yearly carving pumpkin and enjoy a favorite seasonal treat, like apple cider donuts!

Realm of Terror Horror Experience

Location: 421 W Rollins Road, Round Lake Beach, IL

Reviewed and featured in multiple national publications, Realm of Terror Horror Experience is a top-notch haunt in the Chicagoland area. Guests at the Realm of Terror will be grossed out and delighted by the expertise of professional set designers and the talent of professional makeup effects artist Stevie Calabrese of reality TV’s FACEOFF fame.

HellsGate Haunted House

Location: 1300 South State St., Lockport IL

HellsGate Haunted House takes Halloween scares to the next level. Visitors are instructed to park at the Lockport Metra station lot (the address is above) to board a shuttle that takes them to the secret location of HellsGate. The tour is a full 45 minutes and located in a multi-level mansion to elevate the terror you’re sure to experience. If you’re a hardcore haunted house enthusiast, we recommend visiting the HellsGate website before your excursion to read up on the folklore of this elusive house.

13th Floor Chicago

Location: 1940 George Street, Melrose Park, IL

Using the superstitious connotation for the number 13, ever-popular 13th Floor Chicago is by far one of the scariest haunted houses in the Chicagoland area. The 13th floor in this fictional world is a secret that only guests get access to, along with all the horrors that come along with it. You’ll find the usual characters, like that guy who chases people with a bladeless chainsaw, and some unique creatures that are likely to give you quite a fright.
