The How, What, & Why of Google’s Skillshop

If you’re a marketing professional who regularly updates your Google Ads and Analytics certifications, you may have noticed Academy for Ads has changed. In fact, it’s undergone a complete rebranding and update. Now known as Skillshop, this suite of e-learning courses developed by the best and brightest at Google help you gain skills in the realm of digital marketing. With this update, you’ll find welcomed changes and new courses designed to boost your knowledge of the tools offered by Google. Continue reading for our first-look at Skillshop and what you can expect when it’s time to renew your certifications.

 

What’s Changed?

Professionals that use Google Ads products are probably certified in one, if not all, Ads courses. Skillshop has removed the Google Ads Fundamentals course and replaced it with four courses, some of which you may recognize from Academy for Ads:

  • Google Ads Search
  • Google Ads Display
  • Google Ads Video
  • Shopping Ads

Since Google Ads Fundamentals has been removed, you now only need to take one of the above courses to be Google Ads certified. However, if you want to master your skills, earning a certification in all courses is ideal.

 

What’s New?

You’ll notice the Google Ads – Measurement Certification as part of the updated Google Ads suite of courses. This course helps you understand important metrics and how to measure and optimize ad campaign performance.

Google Ads certification exams have also changed in length. You can expect anywhere from 46-50 questions depending on the exam and a time limit of up to 75 minutes to complete each test.

In addition to the Google Ads revamp, Skillshop offers a host of other engaging courses to round out your digital advertising knowledge.

  • Google AdMob – covers advertising on mobile apps, specifically for app developers
  • Waze Academy – teaches you best practices for advertising on the Waze platform
  • Google for Education – a set of courses that helps students and educators learn how to best utilize Google products for their benefit
