Cicadas and Ice Cream: Highlights of the 2024 Aronson Ads Summer Picnic

In early June 2024, the air was filled with the deafening buzz of cicadas. Amidst their unwelcome symphony, the Aronson Advertising company gathered to kick off the start of summer at the annual summer picnic. While the picnic had originally been scheduled to take place at Busse Woods in Schaumburg, IL, the venue was changed due to the relentless cacophony of the local cicada population.

Upon arrival at the new venue, guests received raffle tickets to drop into bags for raffle items they were most interested in. This created a smooth flow of guests into the venue itself. After placing their tickets, guests broke off to find seats and catch up with their individual work teams. The venue’s stonework and charming staircase leading to a grassy hilltop provided the perfect backdrop for everyone to settle in and enjoy eating, socializing, and watching the Aronson “Olympics.”

An array of thoughtful food options were available, including vegetarian and vegan options. Amongst the selection were chicken fingers, sandwiches, pasta salad, fruit, salad, quesadillas, and potato chips. As a special treat after lunch while the “Olympics” were ongoing, an ice cream truck was revealed, offering complimentary dessert to all. On such a hot and humid day with not a cloud in the sky, many people took the offer of ice cream very seriously! The ice cream truck was run by D’s Sweet Treats, a local family-owned business, and offered flavors like cookie dough, coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. For a delightful addition to your treat, rainbow sprinkles were offered on request.

The “Olympics” are a series of fun and light-hearted games designed to entertain spectators and players. Players were split into small, pre-selected teams, and each team navigated an obstacle course that included croquet, cornhole bean bag toss, and a frisbee toss involving knocking a plastic cup off of sticks in the ground. The ultimate winners of the “Olympics” were on Team Three.

To wrap up the picnic, it was time for the raffle! As numbers were called out, silence ensued as everyone eagerly searched their tickets for the winning number. Thoughtfully curated prizes included gift baskets tailored to movie lovers, home chefs, backyard grillers, golf enthusiasts, baseball fans, audiophiles, and more. Once the raffle was finished, it was time to wrap up the party and head home. Everyone had a great time out in the sun and fresh air, and by the end, the cicadas had faded into the background, no longer the main event but rather just part of the hum of early summer.
