What did you enjoy most during the Oscars? Almost everyone at the office had an opinion on the 2017 Academy Awards results and was eager to share them on Monday morning. From discussing favorite films to debating the best adaptations, there was a lot to talk about even before the shocking twist ending.

Our most heavily discussed moments from last night’s show include:

  • The Reactions. If you’re watching an awards show without following social media, you’re missing out on some of the best responses and memes.
  • The End of The Streak. Kevin O’Connell had been nominated 20 times for sound mixing without winning, with his first nomination in 1983. He finally broke his 33-year losing streak on Sunday night with a win for Hacksaw Ridge.
  • Thought Provoking Speeches. After earning her first Oscar win for her performance in Fences, Viola Davis delivered a truly exceptional acceptance speech. “I love that I can go back and look at stories of women that have gone before me … seemingly should have not survived and they did. I love my skin, I love my voice, I love my history. Sometimes I don’t love being the spokesperson all the time. So be it. That’s the way that go, right? But at 51, I’m sort of loving me!” was how Davis ended her speech.
  • The Candy. We were all a little jealous of the candy that rained from the rafters at the Kodak Theatre. How awesome would it be if candy floated down from the ceiling at our office? It would be very awesome and more awards shows should include free, random snacks.
  • The Twist. As soon as content team member Hannah walked in, she asked, “Did you see the end?” Most of us had, and every one of us was shocked by what transpired. Conspiracy theories ranged from blaming Warren Beatty to blaming the accounting firm, to Leonardo Dicaprio (he last touched the Best Actress envelope). Most of us were impressed that no one panicked or lashed out during the confusion. While the ending did miss a bit of the standard celebration that comes with a Best Picture win, it was great seeing a film as remarkable as Moonlight getting its due.
  • The Feud. Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel have carried on a pretend conflict for years, and Sunday night was merely the latest battleground for the actor and comedian to make jabs at each other. Kimmel poked at Damon a few times during the show, and even went so far as to start the orchestra as Damon was presenting for Best Original Screenplay. We’re all waiting to see where the never-ending battle between the two stars goes next.
