Since the transition from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics, a steady stream of new features, capabilities, and fixes has been released to enhance the measurement and improvement of website traffic and performance. Staying on top of the latest Google Analytics changes helps digital marketers best direct their efforts to generate website traffic, leads, and overall advertising strategy.
New Report & Settings Tools
In January of 2025, Google Analytics saw two major changes that help users manage reports and settings. The new ability to copy reports and explorations across properties is important for consistency and helps save time. Now, instead of needing to double-check the configurations across different properties, they can be exported to ensure uniformity. This also allows users to copy custom detail reports or private and shared custom explorations to other properties. Google also added consent hub settings for helping find data privacy solutions based on regional restrictions.
Additional Data Analysis Tools
In March, two more features were added with a focus on helping users analyze data. The addition of annotations allows users to add notes in Google Analytics reports to help them keep track of key information or highlight an insight. This is particularly helpful for organizations with multiple users, as it now has a tool to streamline cooperation in Google Analytics itself. The second change in March was an option to omit values in reports that lacked data, so drawing conclusions from categories connected to those values can be more accurate and useful.
Updates to Generated Insights & Report Formatting
The changes in April introduced improved methods for utilizing existing tools, including generated insights and new choices for report formatting. Generated insights are now present in detailed reports and include performance summaries generated by a powerful AI engine that takes into account an impressive amount of metrics, dimensions, and data to draw conclusions. Complementing this, the addition of the report snapshot templates helps users easily get an overview of specific requested data, including user behavior, marketing performance, and sales and revenue.
What’s Next?
But, that’s not all for Google Analytics this year, with new features on the horizon, including more AI-powered innovations. The large language models (LLM) help process vast amounts of text, while the Google Search Console AI overview helps streamline search engine optimization (SEO) with managing organic search queries and more.
