As a car dealership, you obviously want yourself to be easily and frequently found by your potential customers on Google, and by now we know what a huge role local SEO plays in making that happen.

Since Google doesn’t share the exact details of how it decides what to show and where on the search results page, there are quite a few misconceptions floating around about local automotive SEO, paving the path for unrealistic expectations and inevitable disappointments.

Hello everyone, this is Q, an SEO Specialist at Aronson Advertising, and today I will be debunking 5 of the most common myths about local automotive SEO to save you from disappointments.

Myth 1: Does local SEO let you rank number 1 for any keyword you want?

The short answer to that is no, you absolutely cannot rank for any keyword within 30 days. You might be able to rank for keywords that no one is searching for, but that’s just a complete waste of time and effort. What you wanna rank for instead are keywords that offer you value in the form of traffic, conversions, and leads. And ranking for those kinds of keywords can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months on average.

Myth 2: Does local SEO guarantee a massive traffic boost within the first month?

This might not be the answer that you’re looking for, but that’s just not going to happen. You have to understand that local SEO is a marathon, not a sprint. It can take anywhere from 60 days to 90 days, or maybe even longer, to start seeing the kind of traffic that you’re expecting. And honestly speaking, you should not even be concerned about traffic. What you should be really concerned about is the quality of traffic, one that is generating leads.

Myth 3: Can local SEO be used to make a competitor disappear off the rankings?

Nope, that’s definitely not happening. You see, there are over 200 Google algorithmic variables in play, and they are the ones that determine what shows up in search engines, and what doesn’t. If this was 2010 or 11, then maybe you could have used local SEO to completely knock a competitor off the rankings. However, Google has introduced some pretty strong and much needed measures in recent years to put the madness to an end.

Myth 4: Does effective local SEO strategy guarantee a consistent increase in traffic and conversion?

Once again, that is not correct. Even the most powerful local SEO strategy in the world cannot guarantee that for a number of reasons, for instance, seasonality trends. You are bound to notice some significant increase in traffic and conversions in some months, and maybe a slight decrease in others. There are always going to be fluctuations in traffic and conversions, and that is perfectly normal.

Myth 5: Does a loss in traffic mean my local SEO strategy is failing?

If you haven’t picked up on the trend yet, the answer is another no. Local SEO does have a huge impact on traffic, leads, and conversions, but it is extremely important to understand that it’s not the only factor that determines the success that you’re chasing. There are additional variables as well that come into play, such as the content on your website and the way it’s displayed, the incentives and specials, and how the deals that you’re offering compare to that of your competitors.

That’s it for today guys. I’m Q from Aronson Advertising signing off. Until next time, see you later!
